Preschool

Birth - age 5 programs in the Vancouver area


If you are a family with a child(ren) with special needs between the ages of birth- 5, there are several agencies available to support you and your child(ren), even before they are age appropriate for Kindergarten.  The goal is to advance children’s success through developmental activities and parent education while equipping families with the knowledge and skills to advocate for continued success.  You and your child may qualify for any of the following services through the district: 

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Speech/Language Therapy

  • Physical Therapy

  • Early Childhood Special Education (Preschool)

  • Specialized instruction in Early Intervention (Birth to age 3)

Preschool/High School classes: Preschool classes for children ages 3-5 years are provided at each of our high schools as part of the Child Development classes. The sessions are 1 ½ - 2 ½ hours and meet two times each week during the fall and spring semesters (about 12 times each semester). The preschool program is a play-based program that includes indoor and outdoor activities, circle time, art/crafts. Children need to be toilet trained. Parents need to provide transportation. Cost is $25-35 per semester.

School-based Preschool Activities: Many of our elementary schools offer preschool/early learning activities, for example – Preschool Story Time. These activities are open to all Evergreen families. Please call the local elementary for details.

CAR Kids is a preschool program that provides preschool at a reduced cost for children ages 4-5 years who have strong language and social skills. CAR Kids are peer models who have the advantage of being part of a preschool classroom with a diverse group of children with special needs. All children benefit from learning opportunities that are provided based on each child's unique qualities, taught by highly qualified Early Childhood Special Education Teachers in a developmentally appropriate, standards-based program with a low adult to child ratio. Tuition is $159.60/month with a one-time supply fee of $25. Discounted tuition rates are available for Evergreen families and families in financial hardship.
