Priority and Focus Schools
Wy'east Focusing on Improvement
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), in collaboration with the State Board of Education (SBE), identified a total of 288 Washington schools in 2015-16 for accountability and support based on three years of data in either reading/mathematics (combined) or graduation rates. Those 288 schools qualify as either "Priority" or "Focus" Schools and their improvement efforts are closely monitored by the state.
Wy'east Middle School was identified as a Focus school in need of improvement in the area of English Language Learners. The Focus School designation remains through 2017-18 during the transition to ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act).
During the past three years, Wy'east has focused diligently on ensuring educational equity and access to students of all ethnicity and backgrounds.
