TEACHER PREPARATION

Effective and inspiring educators are at the heart of the EXCEL program, designing high-rigor, challenging and creative tasks for students. Teachers are trained to work with gifted children, utilizing flexible learning environments and project-based learning to engage students in experiences designed to provide multiple entry points while removing artificial ceilings on learning, and connect to student interest and culture.

STUDENT GROUPING

A cluster is defined as a small group of gifted students placed in a classroom in the neighborhood school in which other identified gifted students have been placed. Based on enrollment, identified students will be clustered in groups of at least ten in a class. The proficiency range of students within clusters will be narrowed so that instruction can be maximized to meet students’ accelerated needs. Part-Time students are usually in cluster classrooms the days they are not in Part-Time.
