Homegrown Educator: Stephanie Taylor

Stephanie TaylorWhat memory of your experience in Evergreen Public Schools stands out most for you?

The lifelong friendships I made along the way. Some of my best friends in life are people I met over the years at Sunset, Covington, and Evergreen.

Did you have specific goals as a youth? How did you go about achieving those goals?

I always wanted to be an author. I wanted to write fiction and have novels with my name on the covers. I went about achieving that goal by majoring in English in college and then finding out more about how to publish my novels.

Do you have advice to offer students who are aspiring to be as successful as you?

I doubt most students would consider being a high school teacher "successful," but if they're aiming for college, they should consider their grades and think about what their plans are after high school.

What are your plans for the future?

Sometimes you just can't plan life, you see where it takes you. I live in Vancouver again after a decade in Florida, so I'm happy here for now. In the future I'd like to keep writing fiction and hopefully be a full-time novelist some day!

What is most rewarding about your job; what makes it worthwhile?

The relationships. Getting to know people and to be a part of their lives.

Tell me something about yourself that people might not already know?

I'm the biggest "Golden Girls" fan in the world!
