Choice Transfers
Residents of other Washington School Districts
Residents of other Washington School Districts
Choice Transfers (out-of-district boundary exceptions) are required for any student who wants to attend a school in our district, but lives outside of our district’s boundary. Requests need to be submitted to your resident school district first, and they will notify us of your request.
To submit a request see the instructions here: Resident District Information
Choice Transfers are valid for one year only. A new request needs to be made every year and Choice Transfer Requests for next school year can be submitted no earlier than May 1. Check your resident district’s website for exact dates.
Decisions will be communicated via email, please check your spam folder. Please note that decisions on boundary exceptions for next school year may not be made until late August.
Participation in sports is not a valid reason for a boundary exception. The WIAA does not permit student transfers if the purpose for the request is to play sports at a non-resident school.
The district does not provide transportation for students on boundary exceptions.
Union High School boundaries are currently closed, and we are only accepting applications that meet the criteria outlined in 3131P and policy 3141 for employees or students identified as foster or experiencing homelessness. Our other district high schools—Evergreen, Heritage, and Mountain View—remain open for boundary requests. Additionally, our online high school, Legacy Online, will expand for the 2026–27 school year, with applications opening later this spring.
If you need forms in Spanish or Russian, please contact the Boundary Department or pick up a paper copy at our main office.
